Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt has appealed against his suspension over spot-fixing claims, the International Cricket Council chief executive has revealed.Haroon Lorgat confirmed to Sky News that Butt's appeal had been received, although Pakistan team mates Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif have yet to follow suit.
The trio have been suspended until the completion of an investigation into allegations they fixed parts of games during the tour of England, which finished earlier this month.
All three have been backed by the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) in their denials of any wrongdoing.
Mr Lorgat insisted corruption was not rife within the game and said Butt's formal appeal was evidence the "time-consuming" probe was moving forward.
"That in itself is good progress," he told Sky News.
Innovations in the Champions League
It was survival instinct that drove players to look for cutting-edge tactics at the recently concluded Champions League Twenty20. The second tournament has been nothing short of a discovery : unsettling yet determined shots, novel field positions and a whole new bag of tricks from the bowlers to hold them in good stead. That's what made the CLT20 a good show. Despite some ordinary cricket, there were also some splashes of brilliance. Here are my observations from the tournament.
Starting with the fine-leg fielder inside the circle
Most teams had the fine-leg fielder inside the ring and pushed the square-leg fielder back to the boundary right from the beginning. This is not how teams have traditionally begun one-day innings, preferring instead to have the fielder beside the square-leg umpire save singles and the fine leg, though slightly squarer, back on the boundary.

This is not how teams have traditionally begun one-day innings, preferring instead to have the fielder beside the square-leg umpire save singles and the fine leg, though slightly squarer, back on the boundary.
There are three reasons to have the square-leg fielder back. First, the balls that end up in the fine-leg region are the ones drifting down leg side but bowlers, especially in Twenty20 cricket, back themselves not to err in line. Second, the batsmen aren't afraid to hit over the top and taking the aerial route over the square-leg fielder is safer than walking across the stumps to play fine or to scoop the ball like Dilshan and McCullum. Third, bowlers don’t mind conceding singles because a single is as good as a dot ball in Twenty20 cricket.
Give the UDRS a chance
The ball hits the edge of the bat before crashing into the pads. The fielding team appeals vociferously and the umpire adjudges the batsman out. Haven’t we seen such inaccurate judgments being pronounced time and again?
They are far from being an aberration, and the argument is that the umpires are humans and can err too. Point taken. But what happens next depends on that single decision the captains would have taken ahead of the series. For example, if you happen to be involved in a series where the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) is not being used, you must make your way back to the pavilion without even breaking into a frown. For a frown or a shake of the head might be considered ‘showing dissent’ and could attract a summons from the match referee or even a fine.
WASEEM AKRAM AND SUSHMITA SEN BREAK RELATION
August 7, 2010: Beauty Queen Sushmita Sen has added one more break-up in the history of her relationships. This time the poor chap is Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani cricketer. The couple had a very short-lived relation of five months, which started following their appearance in dance reality show as judges.
They met in the Colors’ show Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina, which was however not their first meeting. Their first interaction was in Dubai in 2006. But, they came closer during co-judging the show and fell in love.
The decision of break-up is said to be a mutual one. The reason behind their separation is said to be the increasing closeness of Sushmita with Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi.
In October 2009, when Wasim lost his wife Huma, he found support from Sushmita and fell for her. The long distance relationshipbetween them is also said to be one of the reasons of this break up. Wasim was in Pakistan most of the time and Sushmita is not comfortable with settling down in Pakistan. After mutual discussion, the couple decided to settle down in Dubai but after sometime the lady showed her unwillingness to move to Dubai also. After having several arguments on the issue of settlement, they finally decided to break up.
